On social VR platforms such as VRChat, there is a phenomenon known as phantom sense. A person who develops this sense can experience the virtual touches from other users on their physical body. Some describe these sensations as a strong pressure, warmth, or tingling. Is this just an illusion? Or is the virtual body a temporary extension of the physical one?
For "Blurred Sense of Self", Simon Johannesson uses photogrammetry (a technique dating to around 1840, revolutionized by digital tools). Johannesson photographed a person from multiple angles and later used software to reconstruct these images into a 3D model. The virtual photo is later made with a virtual camera in the 3D program Blender. One of the stages in the photogrammetry process produces a sparse point cloud, and this is how "Phantom Self" was created. In short, these images were not generated using AI.
